Writing Your CV
Blue Spark realises that presenting your whole life on 2 or 3 sheets of paper is not always easy. Once registered, we'll give you constructive feedback on your CV so that it's a true reflection of you, your experience, achievements and transferable skills.
With regards to the CV you send us, we hope the following points are useful if it's been a while since you had to compile a CV.
- Avoid writing in the first person (except on the cover letter).
- Start your CV with a Personal Profile to get the reader interested in you as a person.
- If you have a lot of transferable skills and have worked in different product sectors then a Skills Profile would be good to include next.
- Education and qualifications should be in chronological order, including dates.
- Career History in reverse chronological order including name of the company, job title, dates and your role.
- Write a maximum of 3 pages with most detail on your recent work, and be increasingly brief the further back you go.
- Include your key achievements for each position held, focussing on personal achievement and responsibility to show employers that you can add value to their business.
- List any courses or additional qualifications you have attained during your career.
- Make sure the dates work out and don't conflict.
- Keep the format clear and simple to understand so the reader will immediately recognise what you have to offer and the positive impact you can make on their business
